Success Stories
At Lynx, we strive to exceed expectations and are committed to
delivering innovation. We combine our extensive industry knowledge
with our SAP expertise and deliver results.
Georgia-Pacific Corporation
Georgia-Pacific began in 1927 as an Augusta, Georgia hardwood
lumber yard. Today, as one of the world's leading manufacturers
and distributors of tissue, pulp, paper, packaging, building products
and related chemicals, they employ more than 55,000 people at 300
facilities in the United States, Canada and 11 other countries.
We are pleased to have had Georgia-Pacific as a customer on an
ongoing basis since 1995. We have provided SAP consulting and project
management services in all major areas of Georgia-Pacific’s
SAP system, including FI, CO, SD, MM, APO, PM and ABAP. Our major
contributions have included the Fort James Integration, the SAP
Archiving, and most recently (2005-2006) the Load Optimization projects.
Fort James Project
In the year 2000, Georgia-Pacific acquired Fort James. Faced with
the daunting task of integrating multiple sites and systems into
a single SAP system, Georgia-Pacific turned to Lynx-Consulting to
provide them with top talent to guide them through the project.
We assembled a team of fifteen consultants custom fit to Georgia-Pacific's
needs; integration experts who understood the Consumer Product industry
and were experienced in the required SAP modules, including SAP
Systems Architecture, FI, CO, SD, MM and ABAP development.
Our team worked closely with Georgia-Pacific's internal team to
conduct a needs analysis and develop recommendations. During the
implementation, we were responsible for integration, configuration,
testing, conversion and training. Additionally, our ABAP team supported
the functional consultants by providing the required technical support.
Archiving Project
Lynx-Consulting assessed, defined requirements for, and executed
a complete SAP archiving solution for Georgia-Pacific Corporation.
We were responsible for the project management and hands on functional/technical
aspects of the project. Our two member team worked in conjunction
with Georgia-Pacific’s team members for the duration of the
project, leading the process from the blue printing stage through
the testing phase.
The scope of the project included:
- Implementation, configuration, testing, sizing and security
of IXOS to manage all archived data via IXOS Archive Server,
- Implementation of SAP DART to archive tax relevant data to
IXOS Archive Server and to act as a data source for re-extraction/transfer
to GP Corporate and/or IRS during audits
- Implementation of SAP-ARC-IS for viewing archived IDOCs and
viewing MM_ACCTIT,
- SAP DRB (Document Relationship Browser) used for data validation
during Development/Testing Phases
- IXOS Data Archive Plus for the end-user browser & reporting
tool
The functional areas addressed included FI, CO, CO-PA, MM, SD,
PP, SIS structures, Basis cleanup, and non ADK table structures.
Load Optimization Project
The Load Optimization project is a perfect example of how our
consultants provide innovative solutions. Our responsibilities included
project conceptualization, blueprint and design, realization, go-live,
testing, training, cut-over and post go-live support.
Load Optimization is a method that allows Customer Service and
Shipping to maximize truck loads. The method takes package dimensions
into account rather than just volume and weight.
Lynx proposed a solution to drive down Georgia Pacific’s
transportation costs with potential benefits estimated at $1.0 million
dollars in shipping costs saved per annum. We assessed As Is –
To Be requirements, defined requirements for, evaluated third-party
software and executed a solution for the optimization of load transportation.
The solution included use of existing functionality within the SD-Shipping
and Transportation module and interfacing SAP into ORTEC, a third
party software.
The ultimate benefit was that orders could be planned and created
at the time of entry so that they would be better optimized at the
distribution point. Beyond the savings achieved through maximization
of load space, costs attributed to damages, shipment follow up,
weight distribution and cuts were also minimized.
The project was successful and is being adopted by other divisions
within Georgia-Pacific.
The COCA-COLA Company
The Coca-Cola Company is often regarded as American, however it
is a truly an international company, operating worldwide in more
than 200 countries and producing nearly 400 brands. In fact, the
Coca-Cola business in each country is a local business. Coca-Cola
beverages are produced, sold and distributed by authorized local
bottling partners, who own and operate bottling plants and sales/distribution
centers, employing one million local citizens - 90% of which is
outside the United States. We began working with Coca –Cola
in 1997, when they needed a solution to expand their SAP R/3 functionality
to accommodate their high-volume, international requirements.
In most manufacturing enterprises, "returns from customers"
are a small part of the overall operations and manufacturing management.
However, in the beverage bottling industry, there is a critical
relationship between, beverage sales, bottle returns and inventory.
The number of bottles on hand must constantly be balanced against
sales and warehouse storage capacity. It is essential that there
is never a shortage or oversupply of bottles.
In Coca-Cola’s case, the solution was as complex as the
problem. The only viable option was to build additional extensive
SD (Sales and Distribution) capabilities into their R/3 system by
writing new ABAP code. Just 24 months of development were required
for the core bolt-on functionality, which worked to spec on its
first release. During this period, we also supervised development
of robust, easy-to-use functionality for Coca-Cola's MM (Materials
Management) and PP (Production Planning) modules for complete control
of the company's supply management.
These bolt-on enhancements helped propel Coca-Cola's worldwide
ability to meet its demand for bottled beverages as an integral
part of its enterprise system capabilities. |
